NCCARF’s Climate Adaptation Champions - 2012 Nominations now open

NCCARF is highlighting the actions of people in communities, business and government who are leading the way in climate change adaptation. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) defines adaptation as “Adjustment in natural or human systems in response to actual or expected climatic stimuli or their effects, which moderates harm or exploits beneficial opportunities.”

NCCARF will showcase people and projects actively changing behaviour, techniques, businesses and policies to adapt to an altered climate future. NCCARF Climate Adaptation Champions can be:

  • excellent communicators, actively involved in exchanging the knowledge needed for climate adaptation;
  • people, groups and governments actively involved in making decisions that take climate change impacts into account;
  • leaders in their field, assisting others to adapt to a changing climate and
  • inventors, designers and businesses leading the way with innovative ways to adapt.

NCCARF Climate Adaptation Champions will be chosen in 4 categories:
Individual, Community, Business and Government.
Entrants must address at least one of these five main topics:

Adaptation for prosperity - In a shop or on the farm, from your location to your services, what do you do differently in business to account for a changing climate?

Communicating for climate adaptation - What have you done to connect people with the knowledge they need to understand adaptation and find solutions for climate challenges?

Helping the natural environment - How do you make habitats more climate resilient or care for wildlife that will be affected by climate change?

Climate adapted city life - What are you doing in the city to help prepare for climate impacts such as more extremely hot days or stresses on the water supply?

Resilient Communities - How do you engage with others to bring awareness of climate change impacts into plans and practices that can benefit your community or social group?
